Why Captain Pike is the best part of Star Trek: Discovery’s season 2

Season 2 of Star Trek: Discovery introduced us to Captain Pike (Anson Mount), former Captain of the USS Enterprise. But the Enterprise has been docked and seeing as the Discovery is without a captain well…

To be completely honest I just wanted a reason to put a whole bunch of Pike gifs together because he is just so damn dreamy! But seriously, since his arrival this show has gotten a lot better. Season one while entertaining, was a bit of a chore. Lorca’s shenanigans made me tired and there was far too much Klingon politics and not enough space exploration.

Captain Pike’s brought a much needed sense of cohesion to the Discovery. Under Captain Lorca things were well run and the crew trusted him but the man was shady from the get-go. Captain Pike is dashing, charismatic and loyal to his crew.

“Pike is the leader who realizes, ‘Okay, you know what? I have fifteen brains around me? So why am I just using mine?’ So he’s willing to go, ‘I have no idea what’s happening right now. Does anybody have a better idea, because we’ll do that,’” says Anson Mount.

He also has a great sense of humour and trusts his team to know that they are the best at what they do. Mans is charmingly funny and I am here for it!

We’re only 4 episodes in but already Captain Pike is already a favourite. He’s brought that sense of adventure, lightness and leadership that was missing from season 1. He’s everything that a Starfleet captain should be and honestly he’s the reason I can’t wait for a new episode every Friday. I’m looking to seeing where he tales us this season.
